Every year FLC organises actions to celebrate the World Days on the UN and other calendars relating to our topics of interest. We celebrate the UN World Environment Day on 5 June and World Oceans Day on 8 June, as well as World Wetlands Day on 2 February (which commemorates the adoption of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands). We also adhere to Ocean Conservancy’s World Cleanup Day, which is organised by the National Bureau for the Environment in Uruguay, and supported by civil society organisations throughout the Uruguayan coast.
Our objective is to raise awareness, disseminate information on good practices and bring the attention of the general public and the press to the threats faced by our lagoons and their adjacent land and sea areas.
Direct action like coastal clean-ups, followed by talks and workshops, are very useful tools to generate knowledge and promote a culture of respect and conservation and a focus on sustainable development.
