ECO EQUUS

Pueblo Nuevo, a coastal village in Rocha, is home to a unique ecosystem where natural grasslands and ancient millennial gullies converge toward the Atlantic coast, creating a landscape of dunes and native vegetation.

In this ecologically rich environment, ECO EQUUS was born from a desire to reconnect with nature and a deep respect for horses. Our 17.5-hectare property, strategically located between the lagoon and the sea, includes a wetland teeming with diverse birdlife and where our 15 horses roam freely.

The Environmental Challenge

The area has suffered biodiversity loss due to past agricultural activities, with invasive exotic species like gramilla grass dominating. Yet, the soil remains healthy, allowing us to focus on restoring the natural grasslands. Our goal is to revive native vegetation to strengthen habitats for local wildlife, including armadillos, foxes, and coastal and grassland birds.

Our Ecotourism Experience

At ECO EQUUS, we offer guided horseback rides through ancient gullies, surrounded by dunes and Rocha’s Atlantic coastline. Our philosophy centers on nature-based tourism that actively prioritizes local ecosystem conservation.

We practice horsemanship methods that foster mutual respect and a genuine bond between riders and horses, creating meaningful experiences beyond just a trail ride.

Our commitment to the ecosystem translates into sustainable grassland management—reviving native plant diversity, enhancing the area’s ecological services, and offering visitors an authentic yet environmentally responsible experience.
