Cygnus melanchoriphus is one of the most charismatic birds in Uruguay, Slim and elegant, it is fairly common in wetlands and lakes with both brackish and fresh water, and is occasionally found in transit in coastal waters. Found in groups, sometimes very large flocks of several hundred individuals. Compared to other swans it spends a lot of time in the water, and is endearingly clumsy on land.
